Jerry York Takes Milestone Win In Stride Even with his record-setting 925th career victory, Boston College coach Jerry York focuses on only one victory a season – the last one. Still, with a 5-2 victory over the University of Alabama-Huntsville during a holiday tournament in Minneapolis, York claimed sole possession of the NCAA's all-time wins record, eclipsing the mark set by Michigan State University head coach Ron Mason in 2002. "Maybe when I sit down on some porch in 10 years thinking about it,'' York said after the milestone win. "I've always been about team. When I was a player, I was like that. As a coach, I've been like that, so I haven't really sought individual goals. … I want to win major trophies for the team.'' And he's done just that, one of three coaches in NCAA history to lead two different schools – Bowling Green (1984) and Boston College (2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012) – to NCAA titles. Over the course of his 41-year career, York has been a winner wherever he's been. He won 125 games in seven years at Clarkson (1972-79), earned 342 victories in 15 years at Bowling Green (1979-94), and has won 458 games in 19 seasons behind the bench at his alma mater. He is 32-9 in NCAA tournament games as the head coach at Boston College, and his 37 wins in the NCAA tournament are the highest in Division I history. The fact that it did take York five years longer to reach the milestone does nothing to diminish his accomplishments in the eyes of his greatest rival, Boston University's legendary coach Jack Parker. "He deserves all the accolades," said Parker, who is closing in on 900 wins during his 40-year tenure with the Terriers. "He's a very good coach who's run great programs at three different places, and has done an unbelievable job making this program the best it's ever been." We now expect it, and it's been that way for a while. … We'll continue to work hard to be the best in the world on a consistent basis."— USA Hockey Executive Director Dave Ogrean talking about the U.S. National Junior Team winning the gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship 06 February. 2013 USAHOCKEYMAGAZINE.COM Photos courtesy of USA Hockey (2); Boston College
