snag's annual juried student exhibition Daily 8:30am–5:00pm CONFLUENCE The 2013 SNAG Juried Student Exhibition, Confluence, showcases the Toronto Room best student work from college and university metalsmithing and jewellery Fairmont Royal programs across North America. Confluence means a coming together, a York Hotel gathering point, and this exhibition will bring together student work from a broad range of metal and jewellery work, including traditional and non- traditional approaches, to showcase exceptional work from the next generation of metals and jewellery artists. Selections were made from a full range of metal and jewellery work, including traditional and nontraditional approaches, to showcase exceptional work from the next generation of metals and jewellery artists. This year, work chosen for the exhibition will be printed by SNAG at a high quality and displayed as photographs in the exhibition. Jurors Cheryl Fraser After graduating from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 1984 Cheryl moved to Toronto. In 2003 she opened Zilberschmuck to showcase Canadian made jewellery with an emphasis on metal work Tammy Young Eun Kim, San Diego State University, "Restrain" with an intention to expose the public to unique and artistic work. She has established a national juried exhibition of fine jewellery and metal work, which will be in its ninth year in 2013. Over the years Cheryl has mentored students and emerging artists providing advice on how to create a portfolio and approach a gallery. Robert Longyear Longyear completed his MFA in Studio Art at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville in the 2009. He is an artist who has fused an 11+ year studio practice in metals, experience directing collaborative community arts programming, and fascination with urban decay, to create explosive art that both narrows and broadens the viewers gaze at once. He has been Agnes Ma, Northern Illinois University, "Succulent Garden Study I" exhibited extensively, has been represented by Charon Kransen Arts in the Miami International Art Fair, Art Palm Beach, and SOFA's. He has lectured for the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, at the Regional Arts Commission, St. Louis with artist Theaster Gates, and at SOFA Chicago as the "Emerging Artist". His work was recently the subject of a feature article by Bruce Metcalf in the Metalsmith. 56
