A Letter from the Greetings from CMU's College of Communication and Fine Arts. This year's newsletter highlights the outstanding achievements of our alumni, students, faculty and staff. Our students and alumni are accomplishing great things in the worlds of communication and fine arts. During the summer months, several facility upgrades took place here on campus. In the Department of Art and Design, a new kiln cover is being installed to enable year-round use. Over in Moore Hall, the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts is positioning a new lighting grid in the TV studio and Bush Theatre's lobby is receiving an update with new carpet along with Theatre on the Side receiving a lighting upgrade. Dean Salma Ghanem Mission Statement The College of Communication and Fine Arts believes that arts and communication are fundamental to the health, well-being and advancement of society and embraces the power of communication in all its forms. Through scholarship and creativity, the college provides opportunities for students and faculty to pursue their passions, enhance their abilities and realize their potential. The college prepares students to be independent, critical thinkers, lifelong learners and successful professionals in a variety of careers through its commitment to a high-quality, comprehensive education. 3 College of Communication and Fine Arts 2013 Mark Baczewski, a CMU graduate, joined CCFA as development officer. We also welcomed a new provost, Dr. Michael Gealt. During the past few months, we have congratulated our colleagues Doris Ramsey and Mary Ann Renz, both from the Communication and Dramatic Arts Department, on their retirements. They surely will be missed. While CMU has experienced a drop in enrollment, all units in our college are actively recruiting future Chippewas. Our CCFA Advisory Board comprised of 26 dedicated alumni is very enthusiastic about attracting students to CMU and we welcome your thoughts regarding recruitment and alumni engagement. Dean In closing, CCFA would like to thank our alumni and friends. Your dedication to our college is invaluable. We look forward to seeing you at one of our many events, which are highlighted in this publication. If you need a reason to come to campus, mark your calendars for Sept. 28 for Fall into Jazz and experience an evening filled with live Big Band music, dancing and a menu filled with 1940s fare. Homecoming is slated for Oct. 19 and CCFA will be hosting a hospitality tent before CMU's 3 p.m. game against Northern Illinois. And do not forget, Opus 2014 is scheduled for April 5, 2014, in Grand Rapids. We look forward to seeing you. Sincerely, Salma Ghanem Dean, College of Communication and Fine Arts
