WELCOME TO THE NEAR SOUTH CHICAGO'S RENAISSANCE COMMUNITIES Near South Planning Board proudly presents this year's Directory of Near South Businesses and Services. The organization, a not for profit, community-based membership organization, services an area that reaches from Jackson Boulevard on the north to 35th Street on the south and from the South Branch of the Chicago River on the west to Lake Michigan on the east. It is a diverse community of businesses, institutions, historic areas, and many new residential developments. Copies of this Directory will be distributed throughout the area to residents, students, employees and visitors. In addition to this printed directory, an on-line digital directory – the only one of its kind in the Near South Area – has been created. This unique, innovated publication provides direct links to business websites and is viewable on I-PADS and some phone applications. Please make sure to visit our website at www.thenspb.com. We hope you will find this Directory invaluable and use it all year. Please remember to patronize these businesses and let advertisers know you saw their ad in the NSPB Directory. We want to keep them happy! In addition to producing the annual Directory for the area, Near South Planning Board serves its members and the community by sponsoring events and meetings, publishing an e-newsletter, working with City Hall, overseeing public and private development projects and promoting the neighborhood to the media and the public. Thanks to all our advertisers, without them this book would not be possible. If you have comments or suggestions about the Directory or questions about the neighborhood, call us at 312-987-1980, send an email to info@thenspb.com or come visit us at our office, 2600 S. Michigan. Bonnie Sanchez-Carlson President & Executive Director Near South Planning Board P.S. For 16 years, NSPB has been bringing critically acclaimed children's authors for day long visits to third grade and sixth grade classrooms around the city through its Authors In The Schools (AIS) program. The program's mission is to bring the joy of reading and creative writing to students in Chicago's inner-city schools. As we continue to expand the program, additional support is needed. To learn about the program, or to sponsor a school, contact the office (312) 987-1980. The annual Harold Washington Literary Award Dinner takes place on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Union League Club of Chicago. Proceeds from this event benefit the AIS program. NSPB also provides guided tours throughout the neighborhood during the Chicago Tribune's Printers Row Lit Fest on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, from 12-4 p.m. Cover: Columbia College Chicago Manifest Serving The Near South, Chicago's Renaissance Communities 1
