HRO Today Forum APAC From Generalist to Specialist Aligning recruitment processes was part of Tetra Pak's bigger HR picture. By Debbie Bolla Talent is an organisation's number one asset so it's no surprise that growth in recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) has been impressive lately, especially by region. According to research firm NelsonHall, between 2011 and 2012, the U.S. experienced a 15.4 per cent increase; Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) a 10.4 per cent increase; Asia Pacific (APAC) a 17.8 per cent increase; and Latin America with a 19 per cent uptick (see Figure 1 on page 23). So what makes RPO's value proposition so appealing? Martin Nicholls, vice president of direct hire practices (RPO) for Asia Pacific at KellyOCG, attributes the upward movement to the positive impact that RPO has on business outcomes. He says organisations seek to align their talent for a number of reasons: • • • • • • "One HR is a specialist model. So [we are] still delivering the same services but in a more effective and efficient way," said Wong. "We moved from generalists to specialists, where HR business partners focus on strategy and driving impact, and HR shared services focus on delivering HR services in a more centralised, efficient, and synergised way." So how did outsourcing recruitment come into play? Simply put, there was a need to hire better quality candidates in a shorter period of time. "We're really looking at being able to get in quality hires in the shortest time possible at the most Process improvement Process efficiencies Better candidates Cost reduction Scalability and flexibility Augmenting or replacing internal recruiting departments (this varies by country when recruiting for a global workforce) Processing and packaging company Tetra Pak turned to an RPO engagement with KellyOCG to gain process efficiencies. The organisation also experienced cost reduction and process improvement to boot. Tetra Pak's journey was presented by Hsiao-Wei Wong, HR service centre director for the company, along with Nicholls at the HRO Today Forum APAC in Singapore this past May. The backbone of Tetra Pak's HR service delivery is a global initiative, One HR. The multinational spans seven countries and had a bevy of inefficiencies in its HR processes. As Wong explained it, imagine seven countries executing payroll, recruitment, and other HR services by their own means. There was zero process alignment across the organisation and way too much time spent on administrative transactions. That all changed with One HR.
