Chapter 2 Summary Health care, one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the United States, encompasses many different types of facilities that provide health-related services. These include hospitals, long-term care facilities, medical and dental offices, clinics, laboratories, industrial and school health services, and many others. Government and nonprofit or voluntary agencies also provide health care services. All health care facilities require different health care workers at all levels of training. Many types of health insurance plans are available to help pay the costs of health care. Insurance does not usually cover the entire cost of care, however. It is important for consumers to be aware of the types of coverage provided by their respective insurance plans. Organizational structure is important in all health care facilities. The structure can be complex or simple, but it should show a line of authority or chain of command within the facility and indicate areas of responsibility.
