A little upfront research will
make the whole project easier
Make a Diagram
Walk around your property with a clipboard, graph paper, pencil and
eraser. Draw a rough diagram that shows:
1. Which way is north
2. Length and width of your property
3. Downhill and uphill slopes
4. Your home, driveway, walkways, patios and other structures
5. Your home's rooms, windows and doors
6. Size and location of lawn and plant areas
7. Size and location of shade trees
8. Sunny and shady areas in the morning
9. Sunny and shady areas in the afternoon
