Ideas Go Outside! Saving water isn't the only reason to get excited about a WaterSmart garden. Breakfast outside before a day at the office, a peaceful nook for reading novels, and making s'mores around the fire pit are good reasons, too. The idea is to have a garden to live in as well as look at – to create outdoor rooms for your favorite activities. Adding outdoor living space makes even the smallest home feel open. While a professionally built outdoor kitchen is a big investment, outdoor "rooms" make great do-it-yourself projects, too. For one thing, you can use plants to define spaces instead of building walls and fences. For another, hunting for tables, chairs and building materials at garage sales can be a lot of fun. 26 © Debra Lee Baldwin
