Click on illustration. Watering times change with the seasons, increasing when the temperature rises,
and decreasing when the temperature drops. How many minutes is that each month? A landscape
watering calculator or smart controller will tell you.
3. Use a Landscape Watering Calculator
If you have a standard controller, use the
city of San Diego's Landscape Watering
Calculator to produce a watering schedule.
The calculator is based on historical
weather data for your zip code, along with
the water requirements of the plants, the
soil, and the sprinkler type in each of
your irrigation zones. It's free, easy to use,
and works for any location in San Diego
County. Use the schedule to program your
controller at the beginning of each month.
If that's more work than you want to do,
buy a weather-based irrigation controller
that does the work for you.
