Planning Decide Who's on the Project Team Hiring talent, experience and muscle can be a very good investment One of the most attractive aspects of gardening is that you learn by doing and develop skills as you go. However, if you decide that you want help, the pros are standing by. Have your project budget in mind (they will ask), and use your diagram, photos and articles to communicate your goals and questions. Help with Layout, Design and Plant Selection The Water Conservation Garden, San Diego Botanic Garden, San Diego County Master Gardeners and others offer gardening classes, and some offer design workshops and one-on-one design consultations. If you want more assistance, consider hiring a licensed landscape architect or certified landscape designer. Their training, talent and experience bring confidence to the design process. Review the portfolios of several landscape architects or designers on their websites. Select the ones whose designs you like, talk to them and get quotes. Help with Irrigation System Design Ask for advice at an irrigation supply store or take a look at the videos and guides on manufacturers' websites. If you don't want to handle this yourself, find a certified professional on the Irrigation Association or California Landscape Contractors Association websites. They will visit your property, review your diagram and create a system design complete with a parts list and installation guide. Help with Installation Hire a certified landscaper or irrigation contractor to do all of the installation work, or just the projects you don't want to tackle yourself.
