Front Yard Ideas to Reconnect with Neighbors You're probably not the only great cook on your street. Install raised planters, fill them with rosemary, cilantro, sage and whatever else you like, and welcome neighbors to take what they need. A lemon tree Plant it next to the sidewalk and invite your neighbors to help themselves. Nice cooks will return the favor by dropping by with a slice or dish of their creation. A little people's pea patch or carrot patch, or potato patch or tomato patch. Give the kids on your street their own garden and show them how to sow seeds, water and harvest. Put their name on a stake so they know which plant is theirs. A produce basket Put your surplus citrus, avocados or zucchini in a basket by the sidewalk with a sign encouraging neighbors to take some. Or, plant a row in your garden just for local food pantries - they always need fresh vegetables. Ideas An herb garden A water bowl Dogs get thirsty on their walks and love to stop and have a drink. Their owners will appreciate it, too. A courtyard Think of it as a rest area off your front walkway, just large enough for a couple of chairs and a small table, or something more. A basketball hoop Play h-o-r-s-e on Sunday afternoons. 33 © Lisa Uhrhammer © Lisa Uhrhammer
