Nonprofit Organization U.S. Postage PAID Mount Pleasant, MI 48859 Permit No. 93 Central Michigan University Mount Pleasant, MI 48859 Discussion Under Nearly all-new Anspach Renovations completed on most heavily used campus building By Morgan MacDermaid Central Michigan University has completed the final phase of the two-year Anspach Hall renovation project that began in the summer of 2012. The $14.4 million renovation modernized the building by updating the ventilation infrastructure; constructing new sidewalks that are more handicapped-accessible; and adding a new space for a student lounge, offices and conference rooms. Grace Mazurek is among the students pleased with the changes to Anspach Hall, which has not had any renovations done since its construction in 1966. "It's wonderful to have a place in the building where we can relax and get things done between classes," the senior English major says. Mazurek attends the majority of her classes in Anspach Hall and appreciates the study areas for students. "The room by the spiral stairs is especially nice," she says. "It's quiet, and we can do homework without noise from the hallway disrupting us." Sara VanderVeen, project manager with the plant engineering and planning area of Facilities Management, says the renovations will benefit the university and the more than 25,000 students who walk through Anspach Hall each week. "Design matters," VanderVeen says. "It's the most heavily used building on campus, one of the major faces of the university. For students to have a place like the student lounge to work together and mingle between classes is an exciting opportunity. It makes for a much more pleasant experience." • See cmich.edu/chsbs for more
