New Spa Shines Brightly at the Hyatt Regency Monterey M arilyn Monroe is revered world- wide as the exemplar of femininity and the glam- orous, luxurious Holly- wood lifestyle. She was known as the — although quite sexy — girl next door : real and seemingly a p p r o a c h a b l e . N o w, more than five decades since the screen legend's passing, a new spa has opened in Monterey to give clients a chance to c o n n e c t w i t h t h e i r "inner Marilyn." Located at the Hyatt Regency Monterey, on the site of the former Accista spa, the brand- new Marilyn Monroe Signature Spa is among the first three Monroe- branded spas to open in the US. and the first full-service luxury facility. Some talented and experi- enced people are behind it. Prior to joining Marilyn Monroe Spas as COO, Gordon Tareta was vice president of spa development for Hyatt—he was responsible for opening Accista, among 200 other spas. He epitomizes the new company's ethos. "You don't just dabble in the spa business," he says, "you do it right." The facility has been given a complete facelift. The new design is mod- ern, warm and inviting, with beautiful photos of its namesake. A full menu of offerings is presented including massage, facials and hair and nail ser vic- es. Clients may also choose themed pack- ages including "Glamor Me," "Be Wonderful" and "My Day with Marilyn." The staff is attentive, professional and pro- vides a pampering expe- rience, just as Marilyn would like it. Marilyn Monroe Spas has ambitious plans. Other facilities are open in Miami and Orlando; New York City and St. Petersburg, Florida are set to debut this year. "This is potentially a category changer for the industry," Tareta says. He says that despite the Monroe-esque glamour, this will not be an elitist spa. "You shouldn't have to mor tgage the house to go to a spa."
