"I always wanted to make pictures, not just take pictures. This is in the studio. I got tired
of always using a white bounce light. For this photo, designed to be printed as a two-page
spread, I decided to use a more theatrical approach to lighting Nancy. But it was important
that the light not call attention to itself. I think photography is hard. An editor told me, 'if
you ever find yourself thinking it's easy, you'll never take another good photo in your life.'"
