Macklem is currently senior deputy governor of the Bank of canada. Macklem begins his five-year term at rotman in July 2014, when he will take over from interim dean Peter Pauly. n Susan Gilbert will be the new dean of the stetson school of Business and economics at Mercer University in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia. Gil- bert was previously dean at thomas edison state college in New Jersey. n the college of Business at Georgia south- ern University in statesboro, Georgia, has announced that Allen C. Ama- son will be its new dean. he previously served as head of the Management Department at the University of Georgia's terry college. n Georgette Chapman Phillips has been named the next dean of Lehigh's college of Business and economics in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. she is currently the vice dean for technology and enhanced learning at the Wharton school of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. in July, Phillips will begin her new role at Lehigh, where she will assume the newly endowed deanship created by Kevin and Lisa clayton and be a professor in the school's department of finance. n on January 1, Fiona Devine became head of Manchester Busi- ness school in the U.K. she had been acting head since sep- tember; before that she was head of the school of social sciences as well as co-direc- tor of the centre for research on socio-cultural change. n Peter Brews is the new dean of the Univer- sity of south carolina's Darla Moore school of Business in columbia. Most recently, Brews was a profes- sor of strategy and entrepre- neurship at the Kenan-Flagler Business school at the Uni- versity of North carolina in chapel hill. n George S. Low has been selected to serve as dean of radford University's college of Business and economics in virginia. he currently serves as associate dean for under- graduate studies and inter- national programs at texas christian University's Neeley school of Business in Fort Worth, texas. Low will begin his tenure on July 1. n in June, Hamid Akbari will assume the deanship at Winona state University's college of Business in Min- nesota. Akbari most recently served as executive director of development and commu- nity affairs and Audrey rey- nolds Distinguished teaching Professor of Management in the college of Business and Management at Northeastern illinois University. n Tsegai Emmanuel has been named the dean of the col- lege of Business at Grambling state University in Louisiana. emmanuel, a former professor in the department of manage- ment, previously served as dean of the business school between 1980 and 1990. n Leslie F. Seidman, the for- mer chairman of the Finan- cial Accounting standards Board, will serve as executive director of the new center for excellence in Financial reporting at Pace University's Lubin school of Business in New york city. n Peter Withers recently was elected chair of the executive MBA (eMBA) council Board of trustees, based in orange, short takes NEW APPOINTMENTS n Janet Yellen has been confirmed as the first woman in the U.s. to head the Federal reserve Board of Gover- nors. she succeeds Ben Bernanke, who stepped down in January. yellen is the eugene e. and catherine M. tre- fethen Professor emeritus of Business Administration at the haas school of Business at the University of califor- nia, Berkeley. she has also served as the Fed's vice chair since 2010; during the Bill clinton administration, she chaired the President's council of economic Advisers.
