March / April 2014 12 PCA Palooza is an event that my friends and I look forward to every year. The vision of Leonard and Melody Zechiedrichs in 2004 was to provide a gathering of Porsche's and their fanatic owners in the Ozarks, nine years later the vision continues to grow and draw Porschefiles nationwide. The November 2013 event proved once again why PCA continues to grow its legion of members and supporters of what some consider to be the finest sports car in the world. PCA Palooza comes at the time of year when the leaves are turning from bright green to golden brown and the daily temperatures are near perfect for both air cooled and liquid cooled Porsche's alike. The roads surrounding Eureka Springs are like a kaleidoscope of ribbon which tantalizes your Porsche as well as the pilot. My friends, Murray Steeble, Tim Bubniak, Agelon Jones, Spencer Cochran and I decided to make the Friday trek from Kansas City to Eureka Springs an early trip and take in all that Palooza 2013 has to offer. The trip wouldn't have been complete without a quick stop for lunch and an uncooperative turn signal switch in one of our 944 Turbo's which thankfully wasn't a setback at all. I guess even 26 year old Porsche's will have blips from time to time. Friday brings with it a gathering, the first day of Palooza and your opportunity to meet friends from near and far. It's an opportunity to see some of Porsche's most cherished offerings in both vibrant and subdued colors. Where the words "I've only seen that Porsche in pictures until now" come to life before your very eyes as you gaze at the wonderful sculpture that is the Carrera GT. The smell that an old air cooled 911 makes driving past is unmistakable to a Porschefile. Steve Wilson pulls into the parking lot in his wonderful Zanzibar Red 997TurboS, one of two Porsche's that Steve Wilson and his wife Brenda attended Palooza with. The site of a pristine bright blue 356 and the wonderful burble as it passes with a friendly wave from the proud owner.
