Though I was up there on a press
assignment for BMWBlog, the new
Porsche I was most interested in
seeing in person was the new Macan
SUV which expands the Porsche
model line up to a fifth vehicle.
Derived from the Indonesian word
for Tiger, the Macan promises to
combine sport car characteristics
with the benefits of a sport-ute. All
Macan's will have Porsche's double
clutch auto, PDK, standard. Besides
looking like a shrunken Cayenne
(a good thing), cosmetic stand outs
include blades on the side doors that
can be ordered in differing colors ala
Audi R8, and a 918 Spyder inspired
steering wheel.
It comes as no surprise, that
Porsche cash in on it's best selling
vehicle segment with this addition.
The new Porsche Macan, is based
off of a heavily re-worked Audi Q5
chassis, yet is lower and wider and
has two unique engines. The Macan
Turbo has a 3.6L V6 that cranks out
400 hp and the Macan S has a 3.0L
V6 with 340 hp. Both models will
be AWD. Base MSRP of $52,000 and
escalates to $72,000 for the Macan
Turbo.
