March / April 2014 6 Three weeks ago I shoveled my driveway 3 times in 24 hours. Last weekend I opened the sunroof, rolled down the windows and subjected the unsuspecting minions on K10/ K7/I435 to all 450hp of my 996tt X50 to the mussing of Brian Johnson and Angus Young (the best road music ever). Every time I drive that car I fall in love with it once again. Good weather is coming folks, now is the time to think about getting your Porsche ready. Change the oil, charge the battery, check tire pressures or take it to one of our advertisers to have a professional make sure everything is in order. Don't wait for the first full week of nice skies or you will be at the back of the line at the shop(s). Despite the winter weather, our club is enjoying more participation than ever. Last Saturday (Feb 22) I counted 21 Porsches in the parking lot at Le Peep for breakfast! We had 74 members and guests attend the Changing of the Guard dinner last month; the most to enjoy this annual event in 10 years. The new venue (Grand Street Café – Lenexa), picked by social director Holly Juckette Stadtmueller was fantastic and the food and company was over the top. Holly has a number of ideas for other things this year so stay tuned as we intend to have a good time and we want you to join us. If you have an idea for an activity please let me or Holly know directly. Our preliminary 2014 calendar is published in this issue so check it out and get those dates into your phone and computer. I am very pleased to welcome Ann Stover Wyatt to your board of directors. Ann was elected by the board to serve out the term of Jeff Abbott whose work responsibilities in 2014 are going to keep him from being able to serve on the board. Jeff has been an active board member and I look forward to the time when he can join us again in a leadership position. Ann has been an active member since 2006, is a rally expert and drives a gorgeous 1999 Guards Red 996 (yes I am a bit prejudiced towards 996s) with a cool aero kit. She will be a force to be reckoned with on the board and I am sure she will make all of us more effective. As a last note, I would like to invite you to make 2014 the year that you participate in one of our autocrosses. Our autocross program has grown in the last few years introducing more and more members to a safe, exciting way to enjoy the considerable capability of your Porsche no matter what model you own. You will learn some techniques that will make you a safer, more competent driver on the road and with Autocross King Rudy Rodriquez in charge; everyone has a good time, guaranteed. Rudy has scheduled more dates this year so there really is no excuse not to do one or two of them. Just get going! I am looking forward to seeing all of you at events this year!! - Bob PRESIDENT'S COLUMN By Bob Wayman Snow is leaving, a new board member is coming. Let's get going! Despite the winter weather, our club is enjoying more participation than ever. I counted 21 Porsches in the parking lot of LePeep for breakfast!
