March / April 2014 16 time talking about the finer points of the 944 Turbo as many owners find new friends to converse with. The bridge is spectacular in stature and fun to drive across, that is unless your Porsche is enhanced. Some Porsche owners choose to "perfect" the suspension and aero of their Porsche by installing coilover suspension components and ground hugging splitters for the all important increase in aero down force. Our enhanced and fellow Porsche owner Agelon Jones has had previous encounters with bridges proving that steel and concrete will disintegrate a low slung fiberglass splitter in a matter of seconds, but… I digress. As we depart the War Eagle Mill and cross the bridge, Agelon's 944 Turbo barely makes the entrance to the bridge only to find the exit to the bridge even more challenging as his splitter leaves behind some highly polished guards red paint. As we conclude the drive I notice that Spencer has a smile from ear to ear and aptly notes "I think that's the most fun I have had in my Porsche since I've owned it". Since this is the first trip of length for my Guards Red 1986 944 Turbo I couldn't agree more. As we all return from our various morning drives some owners choose to take a scenic drive through Eureka Springs as others prepare for the afternoon's festivities, the People's Choice Car Show. This is an opportunity to show your Porsche and let your fellow owner's judge which Porsche is their favorite in a given category. You will see owners spending hours prepping their Porsche's and others that simply drive down and place their Porsche in its categories area. It's fascinating and humbling to see the level of detail and preparation that owners place in their Porsche's and the effort to maintain 50 year old cars. There are so many fantastic Porsche's that it's hard to pick a favorite. The difference for instance between a pristine blue 356 and a pristine red 356 is purely subjective. As the afternoon rolls on, the indirect sunlight allows the color of each Porsche to present itself as it should and provides a glimpse into the world of an automotive designer's accomplishments. Some owners spend the balance of the afternoon lobbying for votes as others enjoy visiting with friends, taking a few photographs and relaxing before the evening's dinner. Wow what a day, and yet there's more to come. The evening's dinner is a festive event that is mixed with a few cocktails, lots and lots (did I say lots) of raffle prizes and the announcement of the winners of the People's Choice Awards. Leonard and Melody are excellent hosts and keep the evening moving quite nicely. A few quips at Corvettes and Ferrari's and a lesson from JoAnne Trinkle to save those Porsche racing casings that you have turned into coffee table supports provide for an entertaining evening. The Kansas City Region was represented very well as Steve Wilson won the 997 Turbo category for his spectacular TurboS, Tyler Thomas won the 964 category for his superb 1993 911 RS and I was very humbled to win the 944 category amongst some spectacular Porsche's owned by great friends. As the evening winds down you realize what a wonderful day it's been surrounded by great cars and even greater company. As Sunday comes upon us the festivities are winding down as Porsche owners make their trek back home, with home being as The KCRPCA made a strong showing taking home several Best in Class
