March / April 2014 26 This year seventy-seven members, a record number, turned out for the annual installation of officers at the Changing of the Guard at Grand Street Café. As always, everyone enjoyed cocktails, mixing and mingling with friends, both old and new, before enjoying a choice of three entrée's including steak, chicken and salmon. All this was finished off with a delicious dessert card and coffee. No one walked away disappointed or thirsty! After dinner, our President, Bob Wayman, introduced Spencer Cochran, who has joined the Board of Directors for 2014- 2015. We all wished a resounding thank you to Murray Steeble for his years of service. One of the highlights of the event each year is the presentation of the annual Ron Kitchen Checkered Flag Award. Ron was a longtime Kansas City member who was dedicated to PCA. Ron was interested in all forms of driving, racing and associated activities. The award recognizes the individual in the club who best exemplifies the qualities of outstanding sportsmanship, participation and dedication to the spirit of PCA driving events, either as driver or worker. Bob presented the 2013 Ron Kitchen award to Karl Wilen. Karl was recognized not only for the outstanding track events he has participated in over many years, but also for his personal enthusiasm for driver education and club racing. We all know Karl's dedication to everything Porsche and have enjoyed reading his many tech articles in Der Sportwagen over the years. Many club members utilize his technical prowess both on and off the track through his shop Rennsport KC. Rennsport KC is also a major sponsor of Kansas Region PCA. Please stop in and say hi to Karl for all your service and race support needs. I am sure he will have his trophy proudly on display. We want to extend a special thank you to our friends Dan Shearman and his wife Anita from Aristocrat Porsche who were able to join us for the evening. We are proud to have them as our sponsor of the annual Changing of the Guard dinner. This is always one of the most popular events of the year. If you were unable to attend this year, we hope you can join us next year. We received nothing but good comments about utilizing Grand Street Café for the venue.
