(Left) Tyrie Ford's Beechcraft
Staggerwing fit neatly into the
hangar underneath his home, the
first and only home built at Carmel
Valley Airway Village. This home,
sited at the northwest corner of the
runway, was later destroyed by fire.
(Below) This early view shows the
runway looking east, Tyrie's house at
lower left. In addition to the airpark,
the Ford brothers were early devel-
opers of Carmel Valley Village, at the
time this photo was taken it was not
much more than open space and
orchards. Nearby resident Jeff Hand
recalls that television mogul Merv
Griffin used the airfield regularly
when flying to his Carmel Valley
home from Los Angeles.
