In wakesurfing competition, a par ticipant is
towed to a designated course by a rope
attached to their boat. According to the
Competitive Wake Surf Association rules:
"Judging of the routine begins when the rider
enters the course or drops the rope,
whichever occurs later and ends when the
rider exits the course, or falls for a four th
time." Chmel's Cinderella stor y began at the
end of the day. She had not been riding at the
top of her form and on her last run had
already used up three of her falls. "That's
when her talent and competitive spirit came
into play," Gaughan says. She performed the
"ride of her life" and took home top honors
for the sixth time in her career.
When not competing or promoting, Chmel
lives in Santa Cruz, works out—hard—every
single day, and holds down a full-time position as
a medical devices sales rep for Arthrex/Pacific
Medical in the Monterey/Salinas/Santa Cruz
area. Clearly, if she has accomplished this much
in such a short time, her future is very bright
indeed. "Bri is not merely a consultant with us,"
Gaughan says. "She's a member of the
Centurion family. She has a rare combination of
professionalism and talent. You usually get one
or the other. She has both."
