"Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails." ~ Max Eastman Jasper possesses the perfect mellow tempera- ment for working in an art gallery. This 7-year-old English Yellow Lab is an enthusiastic client greeter. "But once he gets his pets and everyone fawns over him, he goes back to sleep," says owner Josh Hardy of Josh Hardy Galleries in Carmel. There's not a mean bone in Jasper. "The only time he barks is in his sleep," Hardy says. While that means he's a joy to be around, "he's useless as security," the gallery owner laughs. And Coco, a 10-year- old, longhaired Chihuahua mix, adores it. Good thing, too, because the Costanzas own Do Re Mi Music in Carmel and there's always something playing on the house sound system. "Because she's so small, we elevate her to our level: she hangs out on the counter most of the time," Nancy says. "Everyone falls in love with her." 072 Working Dogs_086 Working Dogs 4/21/14 10:36 AM Page 1
