RETAILOBSERVER.COM JUNE 2014 24 TRIMLESS FREEDOM INDUCTION COOKTOP Thermador will soon offer a second design option for its innovative Freedom Induction Cooktop. Launched in April 2014, the new trimless Freedom Induction Cooktop features a sleek, solid black surface that allows it to virtually disappear into the countertop for ultimate integration into kitchen designs. Like the current version of the cooktop, which features a stainless steel trim around the edge, the trimless version is 36-inches and features the same patented technology. The Freedom Induction Cooktop is the first full-surface induction appliance with the flexibility of a natural-mapping user interface that intelligently recognizes cookware size, shape and position to deliver heat without boundaries, allowing cooks to use pots and pans of any shape and size. It offers all the benefits of traditional induction technology, including instantaneous and precise temperature control, and also offers the PowerBoost™ feature that boils water faster than any other technology in its class. WINNING MONOGRAM ® KITCHEN DESIGN SURE TO MAKE COOKS "GREEN WITH ENVY" • Grand prize winner Elizabeth Rishel receives $10,000, a trip to the Kentucky Derby and the opportunity to see her design come to life in the GE Appliance Global Customer Center in Louisville, KY. • Rishel's winning kitchen design is "simple, elegant and vibrant." • The "Green with Envy" design incorporates a Monogram range, French door built-in refrigerator, oven with Advantium ® Speed- cook technology, two dishwashers, compact refrigerator unit, wall oven and professional range hood. Certified Kitchen Designer Elizabeth Rishel of Shawnee, KS, was looking up appliance specs for a client on the GE Appliances website when she stumbled across an announcement about the 2014 Kitchen Display Competition. Her impulse decision to enter the competition paid off. Rishel's entry, "Green with Envy", took the grand prize. She won $10,000 and a trip to Louisville for the 140th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 3, as a guest of GE Appliances. Her winning entry featured a distinctive angled placement of the range, a decision that drove the rest of the design. The kitchen also includes a peninsula with nearby wine center, shelving made from reclaimed beams, sleek white quartz countertops, and reclaimed glass tiles, all set against a backdrop of apple green cabinetry. "The key was showcasing the appliances," Rishel said. Rishel incorporated several stainless steel GE Monogram ® appliances: • The 48-inch GE dual-fuel professional range with four burners, grill and griddle (model ZDP484NGPSS) • A 48-inch professional range hood (ZV48TSFSS) • GE's new 36-inch professional French door built-in refrigerator (ZIPP360NZ) • A built-in oven with Advantium ® Speedcook technology (ZSC2202NSS ), positioned above a 30-inch professional electronic convection wall oven (ZET1PMSS) • Two fully integrated dishwashers: a 24-inch model (ZDT870SIFII) and an 18-inch model (ZBD1850NII) • A fully integrated undercounter fresh food refrigerator (ZIFI240PLII) • A fully integrated wine reserve ( ZDW1240WII) "I think that having two dishwashers in a kitchen, especially for people who entertain, is becoming critical," Rishel said. "And I thought the wine reserve was kind of fun." "We found 'Green with Envy' to be simple, elegant and vibrant," said Matt Jones, GE marketing experience and design manager, when he contacted the designer to give her the good news. "The judges felt that the mix of the clean, contemporary kitchen with our professional appliances was a home run. It really showcases where we want Monogram to play in the market." Rishel owns Orion Design, Inc. in Kansas City, Mo., and her company focuses on residential work, primarily kitchens and baths. Her winning kitchen design will be built at GE Appliance Park in Louisville, KY, at the company's Global Customer Center. "It's pretty cool to win a GE competition," she said.
