paul goebelhead coachseventh seasonmiddle tennessee, 1995UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS | 17 | 2011 TIGER TENNIS EXPERIENCE Paul Goebel is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Tiger men’s tennis program and 11th overall season with the program after spending the four seasons prior to 2004-05 as an assistant coach at Memphis. Goebel has continued to build on the framework left in place by previous head coach Phil Chamberlain, continuing to put together one of the toughest schedules in the country, and adding first-class regional and international talent to the line-up. Heading into the 2010-11 season, Goebel inked the largest recruiting class in program history, signing four freshmen from overseas with the U of M. His incoming class includes the first Belgian ever recruited, Cedric De Zutter, and the previously fourth-ranked U18 junior in Ireland, David O’Hare. For the second year in a row, Goebel has coached a doubles pair into the national rankings, with O’Hare and Joe Salisbury ranked 52nd in the country entering the spring campaign. Jordan Smith and David Henry, who tallied a 14-4 record at the No. 1 doubles spot, wrapped up the 2009-10 season as the 82nd-ranked tandem in the nation. COMPLETE BIO
