July / August 2014 27 a black flag due to a fuel cap caused unscheduled stops which put the team back well into the teens. Not an ideal finish, but a good weekend to work out the bugs. Our fellow KC peeps were there from F1 1ab's (Richard Bennett's team), and Fine Sausages with their E30 bmw. I wasn't there for that race, but I believe Fine Sausages took home a 2nd place! Fast forward to a few weeks ago, we head to Hastings, NE to race Motorsports Park Hastings. A 12 hour enduro on Saturday and a 6 hour enduro on Sunday were on the schedule. The weather was perfect, the track was perfect, and the teams were near perfect. F1 1ab's was also there, as were Chump Faces, our friends from South Dakota who also race an E30. Saturday we start pretty far back after a random start, but start working our way through the field quickly. Mike Lyle is in first and quickly makes short work of a lot of cars. We are a little shocked at the lap times he is putting down in comparison to the rest of the field. We are running with the fastest cars, which has not been the case of the little 944 in the past. The car is very fast and absolutely stuck to the track. It is hard to get the car out of sorts, we just keep going harder and harder into the corners. After Mike finishes his stint, we put in Kris Loveless (ohhhhh…wait, that's right, Kris was home doing laundry and not at this race), Eric Peterson, Al Hess, Myself, Mike again, and then Erik finishes the race. Everyone is putting down smoking fast laps and the car continues to move up. Near the end of the race, we are running 4th, 23 seconds behind 3rd place and making up about 3-4 seconds a lap….enough time to catch them. About that time, another car moves over mid turn and hits Erik in the front quarter panel, both cars are black flagged to inspect for damage. We have a bent fender rubbing the front tire, Tim Peterson from Chump Faces jumps over the wall with a jack handle and quickly bends out the fender and the car
