After a brief retreat in to
the hauler to shed his sweat
stained racing suit, Matt re-
emerged, grabbed a cold
sport drink and plopped
down on top of a cooler.
With his back leaning
against the hauler, Matt
gradually decompressed
from the evening's race.
With fellow crew members
Matt recounted the race
with words and hand
movements, attempting to
reconstruct what could have
been a victory.
The good news taken
away from the days' event
was that Matt was still third
in driver championship
points.
After I thanked Matt
for letting me peak behind
the curtain of the Rum Bum
team, I surveyed the quieting
scene. Under a deep blue/
black sky, pierced by the
intense track lights, crew
members pushed the oil and
dirt splattered Porsche back
in to the hauler, securing it
for the long journey back to
Florida. In just two weeks
they would go to battle once
again, this time at Watkins
Glen.
