July / August 2014 18 There are some days that are just meant for Porsche driving, and our Elms Run day was just that - perfect. The crowd gathered, some 25 strong, under a beautiful light blue sky at the Ameristar Casino just north of downtown Kansas City. The breeze was cool but the sun warmed our skin as we all admired the growing number of Porsches. The chatty crowd was only hushed when Bob Wayman gave out our route and driving instructions. After all it is important to know where you are going should you get split up. Splitting up as it turned out was not a problem. Bob had chosen the perfect route to Excelsior Springs. Plenty of long winding roads where my 996 seemed to be happiest rising and falling with the terrain in 3rd gear. We did hit a few straightaways where I could streatch 'Blue Bullet's' legs, but for the most part everyone seemed happy to be snaking our way along the back roads of Missouri. Our destination was a scant 30 minute drive for common motorists. Our fearless leader was able to stretch it into a glorius hour and a half of undulating twists and turns, winding our way to our ultimate destination, lunch. I mean The Elms. No one was split up during the drive up, but upon arrival taste buds took over. Many KCRPCA'ers went to Wabash BBQ to break bread and spill sauce together. The rest of the group went to The Elms for table cloths and polished silverware. Whatever the choice, fine dining or sticky BBQ covered fingers, everyone had their fill. Me? After lunch I handed my keys to my lovely wife and said, "Your turn". To which she smiled, turned and headed to the car... jingling the keys on her finger. Third gear here we come. - Stan SOCIAL UPDATES By Stan Thorne Time for a Fun Run to THE ELMS Pausing for a photo op is a good time for everyone to catch up.
