I watched as Russ from
Chump Faces was making
up time fast, but I was still
going to be ok as long as the
car kept running. A fuel stop
would have cost us 5 minutes,
leaving no room for error so
that was out of the question,
and a blown tire would have
been a killer. Chump Faces
eventually moved into 2nd
place, with F1 1ab's in 3rd.
Eventually time ran out, and
we all crossed the finish line
in the 1,2,3 positions, with
the gap less than 2 laps. Our
little 944 had made history.
Not only did it run with the
E30's and E36 BMWs that
it couldn't in years past (and
really shocked the heck out
of most of the teams there
as to how fast it was), but
it took home the very first
Porsche win EVER in the
Chump Car World Series,
a series that is very much
dominated by BMW! Our
5 man team….(oh there I go
again, sorry…4 man team…I
forgot Kris Loveless was at
home doing laundry) has
fought and fought for years
to bring home a 1st place
and we finally did it. A great
team of consistent drivers,
a reliable and fast car, and
a lot of persistence finally
paid off! Most of all, we
had an absolute blast racing
and hanging out with our
good friends. I think all of
the teams who have raced in
the Chump Car World Series
would agree……it is a ton of
fun to be out there competing,
but your teammates and
the downright friendly
competition are what make it
memorable.
