RETAILOBSERVER.COM JULY 2014 22 M A N U F A C T U R E R [ N O T E S ] G E is a proud sponsor of the 2014 DIY Network Blog Cabin Sweepstakes ® . This interactive TV series asked Internet users to vote on the design features, such as the refrigerator and range, they would want in a vacation getaway. Expert hosts from DIY Network series have completely remodeled a 1920s lakeside house located in Winter Haven, FL. that will become a luxurious home for a lucky sweepstakes winner. Plus, a one-hour Blog Cabin special, hosted by tool expert Chris Grundy, will highlight the incredible transformation. "This strategic relationship allows for GE to interact with consumers in a unique way," said Tim Matis, director of advertising for GE Appliances. "There were more than 1.2 million votes to select the refrigerator and range to include in the kitchen alone." The fan favorite was the GE Frenchdoor ice and water refrigerator and the GE free-standing electric double oven range in Slate, GE's newest premium finish. Slate appliances have quickly proven their popularity among designers and consumers who welcome its contemporary, complementary qualities. Slate is more than a color –it's the combination of several materials and finishes that produce a warm, grey, low-gloss metallic hue. Its matte quality makes it resistant to fingerprints, and its magnetic surface, brushed stainless steel handles and knobs add contrast and provide robust touch points on the products. "While stainless steel is still very popular, many consumers would like an alternative," said Lou Lenzi director of industrial design for GE Appliances. "Slate offers so much versatility. It will fit into more homes, work with existing appliances and complement the high-end finishes many people already have in their kitchens." In 2013, GE surveyed Slate owners to gauge their satisfaction with the new finish – the findings exceeded expectations. Most owners intended to buy stainless steel and switched to Slate due to the appearance and fingerprint resistance. Ninety-seven percent of owners that purchased the suite were extremely or very satisfied with the look of Slate in their home.1 This appeal has led to the expansion of Slate's availability, doubling it with more models and configurations.* See GE's Slate appliances featured on the Kitchen Crashers episode on DIY Network on Monday, August 4 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, and during the one-hour Blog Cabin special on Monday, September 8 at 9:00 pm ET/PT.
