april jauregui head coach third season memphis, 2001 One of seven coaches at the University of Memphis to have returned to their alma mater, April Jauregui enters her third season at the helm of the Tiger volleyball program. The eighth head coach in Memphis volleyball’s 39-year history, Jauregui took the reins of the Memphis volleyball program in the spring of 2008, aſter a three-year stint as an assistant under Carrie Yerty. Jauregui’s familiarity with the program made the transition from assistant coach to head coach a smooth one. COMPLE EETE OM Jauregui has 10 years of coaching experience at three Division I institutions (Ohio, Lamar and Memphis), but taking over the volleyball program at her alma mater is a dream fulfilled for the Orange County, Calif., native. Jauregui showed that she was up to the challenge of guiding the Memphis program, as she led an inexperienced Tiger squad to a 17-14 mark with just one senior and five newcomers on the roster. Memphis’ first CoSIDA Academic All- American as a player, the former April Harriman was a standout outside hitter for Yerty at Memphis from 1997-2000. A highly- decorated player on the court, she still ranks 18th all-time at Memphis with 1,071 career kills. Over her four-year career, Jauregui played in 129 matches and averaged over 250 kills per season. She graduated from Memphis Summa Cum Laude in 2001 with a degree in communications and political science. She completed her master’s studies in organizational communication at Ohio University in the spring of 2002. Jauregui is married to Gabriel Jauregui, who is a special education teacher and varsity volleyball coach at Cordova High School. He also served as the assistant basketball coach at Harding Academy and helped guide the Lions’ girl’s squad to a state title in 2010. 2010 MEMPHIS VOLLEYBALL EXPERIENCE 19
