2009 highlights 20LI09 HIGHI HLIGH GH V D VIDEO Aſter sitting out the first 15 matches HT Christine Bach and BECKY SHAFFER were named to the 2009 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as selected by the league’s Sports Information Directors for volleyball. For Bach, who led Memphis with 945 assists, the honor was her third in as many seasons. Shaffer led the Tigers with 457 digs en route to her academic award. of the season, freshman MARIJA JOVANOVIC had a breakout performance in her collegiate debut versus Houston on September 26. The Belgrade, Serbia native posted a double-double with 24 kills, 10 digs and a .388 attack percentage. Her 24 kills ranks as the most kills by a freshman, in her collegiate debut. Aſter putting away 21 kills, in the Aſter a standout rookie campaign, University of Memphis freshman outside hitter ALTRESE HAWKINS was named to the C-USA All- Freshman Team, as voted on by league coaches. Hawkins led the Tigers with 335 kills in 2009. Tigers’ nationally-televised win at East Carolina, ALTRESE HAWKINS was featured in the December 2009 edition of COBRA Volleyball Online Magazine. Hawkins was later named to COBRA Volleyball All-National Second Team. CHRISTINE BACH set a season-opening record when she picked up 31 digs versus Evansville.
