Producing Champions Both On and Off the Course
The University of Memphis women’s golf team is home to champions, both on and off the golf course. Since Beth Harrelson took over the program in August 2008, the Lady Tigers have claimed five team tournament titles and have had four individual medalists.
Marissa Steen racked up the honors during the 2010-11 season, earning Conference USA’s Golfer of the Week distinction three times. Aſter a second-place finish at the C-USA Championship, Steen was named to the All-Tournament team and C-USA First Team All- Conference.
The Lady Tigers won three events in the 2010-11 campaign, tying the 1996-97 team for the most victories in a single season.
In addition to their prowess on the course, the Lady Tigers also know how to get it done in the classroom. Memphis posted a 3.76 team GPA during the spring 2010 semester, the highest GPA for an athletic squad in the history of the University of Memphis. That stellar performance ranked them seventh place nationally among women’s golf programs and also earned them the C-USA Sport Academic Award, given to the team with the highest team GPA.
