DWELL ON DESIGN 2014 HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED:
• An inspiring keynote by American designer, Stephen Burks,
who shared his passion for craft and conveyed lessons for
young designers on how to marry personal goals with
marketable design. His Man Made exhibition showcased his
many design collaborations with notable design houses
including Roche Bobois, Calligaris, Chevalier Édition, Dedon,
Parachilna and The White Briefs.
• Other notable speakers and presentations included: designer
Ty Pennington, who closed the show with a discussion on
better living through design; architect Peter Williams, who
shared his work building housing for vulnerable populations
through his organization ARCHIVE Global, authenticity in the
design world with Eames Demetrios, the Smart Kitchen of
2025, as presented by GE Monogram, the AIA Restaurant
Design Awards and many more.
• HGTV Stars Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri of Kitchen
Cousins, David Bromstad of Design Star, and Laurie March
of House Counselor hosted meet and greets in the HGTV
Lounge, where HGTV scouts looked for the next HGTV
Design Star.
• Dwell Outdoor transformed more than 24,000 square feet of
the show floor into a botanical oasis. Curated by Shades of
Green Landscape Architecture, FormLA Landscaping, and
Mountain States Wholesale Nursery, the show floor came to
life with 25,000 plants and trees, including living walls by Bella
Builders. The exhibition showcased full-scale prefab structures
from WheelHaus, DropSpot, Altius Prefab, and LivingHomes,
which was decorated by interior designer Vanessa de Vargas
using the vintage furniture website Chairish.com.
• The first-ever Dwell Store Pop-Up was another must-see exhibit
where attendees were able to experience a selection of Dwell
editors' favorite items, meet select designers, and make
purchases directly from the show floor.
• The fourth annual Dwell on Design Awards were announced
recognizing exhibitors for outstanding showing across 11
categories. Winners included: GE Monogram (Kitchen);
TOTO (Bath); Arpa, (Design Materials); Parquet by Dian
(Sustainability); Fringe Studio (Furniture); Cerno (Lighting);
Sprouting Sprocket Studio (Dwell Outdoor); Paper Punk,
led by Grace Hawthorne, (Modern Lifestyle); LivingHomes,
(Overall – Best Booth); and Stikwood (Overall Best in Show).
