Brooks Monaghan < Head Coach < 11th season The Lady Tiger program has flourished on and off the field since head coach Brooks Monaghan’s tenure began back in 2000. The squad has claimed three-straight National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Awards, the 2009 C-USA Sport Academic Award, 12 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV selections and two NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-Americans. Since Monaghan’s first season in 2000, the team has not posted a composite grade-point average below 3.0. Monaghan, the 2007 C-USA Coach of the Year, can look at the program in 2010 and see that his players have grown as players and people. The Lady Tigers have claimed three-straight C-USA Championships en route the program’s first three trips to the NCAA Tournament, 12 C-USA Player of the Year honorees, 24 All-C-USA honorees and 10 All-C-USA Freshman team selections. Under the guidance of Monaghan, forward Ashley Berra was honored as the program’s first NSCAA All-American.Prior to taking on the head coaching duties, Monaghan served as the goalkeeping coach for former coach Les Szabo. As the primary goalkeeper coach, Monaghan was a vital part of Szabo’s staff during the program’s first four seasons. When Monaghan became the goalkeepers coach for the Lady Tigers, he was already familiar with the demands of running a successful college soccer program, having enjoyed tremendous success during his playing career at Memphis. The former goalkeeper still holds school records for single-season shutouts (11) and career shutouts (24). His 298 career saves rank second all-time and he is second in single-season goals-against average (0.80). He was named first team All-Great Midwest Conference in 1992 after helping lead the Tigers to a share of a conference title. In 1993, Monaghan was the Defensive MVP of the league’s championship game, helping the Tigers to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. His 38 wins at goalkeeper still stand as the school record.
