September / October 2014 6 EDITOR'S COLUMN By Stan Thorne The Seasons Change SO DO OUR PORSCHES Women in Support of Men's Porsche Habit Reader's FEEDBACK Your article in this month's editions entitled 'women in support of men's porsche habit' is epic. How true !! I am fortunate enough to have a 993 Cup 3.8 that I race through Kelly Moss Motor- sports and all of us 'drivers' are keenly aware that a big NO from the wife will end the racing (for awhile any- way LOL) Anyway, just thought I give you some feedback…..great article. Sincerely Peter Laughlin, PE I'm just happy people are reading this. - Editor. P.S. Any takers if we order a few of the shirts? I sat in my garage last night with the door open. The occasional cool breeze was winning the battle against the thick humidity, causing the temperature to drop. A late summer storm was blowing in. Van Morrison was playing on my old stereo as lightning danced amongst the distant clouds. Red Racer and Blue Bullet were tucked away in their bunk beds. It is in these precious moments of solitude that I feel the most company. When I was little my father and I would sit on the front porch and watch storms roll in. "Hello Mr. Thunder. Hello Mr. Lightning." were comforting words to a little boy. Lulls in the storms always led to conversations of our common love, cars. Some families have baseball or camping, we had cars. If he were here today he would smile looking at Red Racer and Blue Bullet. He would share in my pain having to say goodbye to one. Don't get me wrong, my father flipped cars faster than Wayne Carini. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, you lose 1 car guy point.) Every time he sold one he would say, I should not have let that one go. I may be repeating the same words soon. Why repeat the words? Life, family, obligations, and maybe the love of the chase. (Again a Wayne Carini comment, chance to gain your point back.) My father loved the chase. However I may be chasing my white whale, literally. Most guys who choose to buy a Porsche are looking for cars that fit in a criteria. I will be looking for a specific car, the last Porsche my father ever owned. It was a white '86 911 with a navy blue interior and 62,498 miles on the clock when he sold it. I'm hoping the winds of time that blew it away will blow it back again, just as tonight's thunderstorm blows back memories of Mr. Thunder and Mr. Lightning. - STAN
