September / October 2014 31 and everyone else a distant second or third. I never forgot that 911. Unfortunately, career and family took top priority (as they should) for many years. Then one day two years ago while visiting a friend in Cincinnati, the Porsche-bug resurfaced. My friend has a 2002 Twin Turbo in Guards Red. He insisted that I drive it and I was blown away as I settled into the driver's seat. The driving experience was incredible as he told me to punch it and to go hard into corners as this car was built to hold them. I am a big believer in analog gauges. I want data continuously while driving. And they gave me all in information I needed to devour the ribbon of highway in front of me. I came back from the drive and informed my wife that there was a Porsche 911 in my future. I started monitoring internet sites and talking to this friend and others who are owners of various models. Last year I came across a one owner, 2002 Carrera with 28,000 miles. So, the good news was it was a garage queen and the bad news was it was a garage queen. I was well aware of the issues that are all over the internet and went in with my eyes wide open. The previous owner had traded this car in to a dealer. Needless to say I had a lot of questions for the dealer, as I did not have the service history. I wanted to have a PPI but could not coordinate it and ended up having the dealer drive the car to me. After looking it over and going on a lengthy test drive I bought the car. I can't believe I put off having this much fun for the last 40 years. One year later I still go out to the garage just to look at it and take the longest way possible to any destination just to let this thoroughbred stretch its legs. Oh, and remember that Guards Red Twin Turbo. My friend has received approval to purchase a new Turbo S in the next two years. That means his Red Turbo will have a new home in my garage with it's brother. Then maybe on a nice day I'll park it across the street from the high school to inspire the next generation. - JEFF My car is a low mileage unmolested all original 1982 911 SC with 54,300 miles and I love it. I have taken the time to track this SC's history. The original owner was an Air Force fighter pilot in the Vietnam conflict. He flew 105 missions in an F-105 Thunderchief and wrote a great book about it. He was so meticulous about the car that when he picked it up in Germany he bought a complete set of factory floormats. Funny thing is that after all this time the original mats are as clean as the carpet. I bought the car in the spring of 2012. It was love at first sight, probably because it was in great condition. Even the best of loves could use a little touch-up. The P lease say GOODBYE to a well kept 1982 SC loved and soon to be lost.
