September / October 2014 34 GUEST COLUMN David Lessmann Cross Country Journey To PORSCHE PARADE Over the years I've read with interest the articles from other KCRPCA members who attended the PCA Parade. This year I was fortunate to experience the event firsthand, thanks to some prompting by my brother, Terry. Terry Lessmann, my younger brother, is a member of the Great Plains Region. He lives in Omaha, NE and owns a 2008 Cayman S. A cross-country trip to attend this year's Parade, held in Monterey, CA, was appealing to my brother for several reasons. It offered the chance to 1) play golf at some of the historic courses on the tip of the Monterey Peninsula, 2) to drive down the scenic Pacific Coast Highway, 3) participate in the prestigious PCA Parade Concours d'Elegance, and 4) drive laps around the famous Laguna Seca racetrack. It didn't take long for Terry to convince me I needed to attend as well. How could anyone not find something interesting in the activities listed above? In fact, upon hearing about this Lessmann family jaunt, my sister, Lori, decided to take part as well. She doesn't own a Porsche but Terry and I let her tag along because she does have a sports car, (a 2012 Nissan 370Z) proving the automotive genes run deep in the Lessmann family. Lori lives in Dallas, TX. Due to work commitments, she decided to save time and fly out. She couldn't stay the entire week but we'd have Sunday through Wednesday to spend time together. Decision made, the next step was to sign up for the event. Registration is done through the PCA website and is first come, first served. To make sure we got in, both Terry and I were T o make the trip successful we would have to travel from Kansas to California, throughout the Monterey area, two days of on-track driving at Laguna Seca, and... the almost 2,000 mile return trip home.
