November / December 2014 8 Well, hard to believe this is my last column as President of KCRPCA. There has been lots of water under the bridge personally and in regards to club activities since January 2013. Many new members, increased participation at all events and struggles with our home racetrack venue Heartland Park Topeka. Through it all your board has remained active, involved and never afraid to act in the best interests of the club. I would like to thank the entire board for their support for the club and me over the last two years. The founders of the Kansas City region wisely included language in our by-laws that prevent officers from serving more than two consecutive terms of office. This has resulted in creative, diverse and exciting leadership that has kept our region strong and moving forward for more than 50 years. The latest slate of officers presented for your consideration is no exception. Experienced leaders plus some new talent bringing a wealth of capability to the table guarantees a bright future for our region. That being said, it takes an involved membership as well to insure the success of the club. I want to take this opportunity to encourage every member to get a bit more involved next year by making a suggestion, attending an event for the first time, participating in a board meeting or even letting your board know about something you think can be improved. I have a friend who posts a question on Facebook every morning for folks to answer. She has a very large number of followers who answer daily and it is always fun to see how people from around the world answer the same question. Today's question is "Do you have any Brand loyalties? To What?" As you can imagine, Porsche tops my list. Every time I pull out of the grid in the Pumpkin or plant my foot in the 996tt X50, I can't help but be amazed with the competence of these machines. Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to participate in an 80's Road Trip to South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado sharing a 1986 911 Cabriolet for seven days on the road. A 27-year-old car, 13,000 feet of elevation change, 2400 miles most of them spent on the north side of 75 mph (with the top down) what could go wrong, right? Thanks to the Porsche engineering we all know and love, absolutely nothing that's what! One quart of oil and fuel at the rate of about 26 mpg was all it took. The car was an absolute joy to drive. Earlier this year I accompanied a friend to Houston to pick up her first Porsche, a 2011 Carrera S. I told her on the way back that she will probably never be without a Porsche for the rest of her life. I am not sure she believed me but that is certainly the way I feel, how about you? - BOB PRESIDENT'S COLUMN By Bob Wayman That's the Way I Feel HOW ABOUT YOU?
