November / December 2014 10 1. Where are you from and what brought you to KC? Born in Tucson, AZ, moved to Manhattan, KS when I was 11. After college and Air Force moved back to Manhattan to work for a consulting firm. Started commuting weekly to Washington, DC in 1990 and in 2000 moved to Alexandria, Va. Moved to KC last year to be near grand kids, family, etc. 2. How long have you been married, kids or pets? Kathy and I will hit 45 years this December (we dated in high school and were married our sophomore year in college). Two kids. Mary Boomer lives in Prairie Village with her husband and our two grand kids. Our son, John, lives in Manhattan. 3. What is your background or profession? I was originally an economist but got involved in the environmental business in the early 70s. Spent 34 years with DPRA, Incorporated, the last 20 years as its CEO. Did a lot of acquisitions throughout the US and Canada. Also, after getting out of the Air Force in 1974, I joined the 190th Air Refueling Wing (Air National Guard). I retired from the 190th in 2002 as a Colonel. 4. When did you join PCA? Originally I joined in 1987 (when I bought my '87 Targa). Since I was in Manhattan, I actually belonged to the KC Region…..but really never did anything with the Region. Let my membership lapse and probably rejoined PCA in the late 90s. 5. What kind of Porsche do you have? Currently I have my '87 Targa (that I bought new in Topeka), an '04 GT3 (basically a track car) and a '13 Cayenne Diesel (tow vehicle). Previously I owned an '02 996 Turbo and two Boxsters. 6. What is your favorite thing about your car? "They are to be driven!" 7. What have you done to personalize it? Targa was a track car for about ten years but it now is somewhat back to stock – though it does have a 3.4 engine and a lot of suspension and brake upgrades. The GT3 is really set up for the track. It is street legal but … barely. 8. Cars growing up that you had fun with? My first car was a '61 bug- eyed Austin Healy Sprite. I just wish I had kept it. 10. What would you like your next Porsche to be? I probably will keep my current fleet for the foreseeable future. The Targa is approaching 200,000 miles…..I doubt I will ever sell it. 11. If you won the lottery what would be the top 3 cars you would own? All would most likely be Porsches. A new GT3 RS would probably be high on the list. Might also like to find another bug-eyed Sprite. - DICK MEET A CLUB MEMBER By Dick Seltzer A Dozen Or-So Questions for a Club Member: DICK SELTZER
