November / December 2014 24 What better atmosphere and venue could there have been in which to sprinkle a dash of 37 Porsches than Kansas City's City Market. There, nestled on the northern tip of downtown KC, by the muddy shores of the Missouri River where steam boats once unloaded supplies for a blossoming prairie city, the historic City Market provided a perfect stage for shoppers to gaze at an eclectic crop of Porsches. Toddlers in strollers and little red wagons munched on freshly baked beignets as their parents pushed or towed them around the rainbow collection of Porsches. On hand for the public's delight were a beautifully restored 356, air cooled 911s, Boxsters, Caymans, 914s, 944s and a 911R. Definitely a potpourri of Germany's best. Gary Hartman encouraged passersbys to take a seat in his Boxster, don his track helmet, close their eyes and imagine they were hustling down the Autobahn, or a twisty back country Kansas blacktop. Would be Porschephiles from ages 12 to 40 took Gary up on his imaginary road trip. A big thank you goes out to the folks of Hagerty Classic Car Insurance for sponsoring the 15th annual Art of the Machine at the Kansas City City Market. Various car and motorcycle clubs rotate during the summer to show their rolling pride and joy on a Sunday at the Market. So next year bring your comfy lawn chair, munch on a freshly baked donut and sip a cup of steaming coffee while you savor the friendship of your fellow Porsche Club members and those walking around appreciating some of Stuttgart's best. - JIM PlayVIDEO PlaySLIDESHOW
