November / December 2014 32 Racing is full of emotion, and hopefully more full of highs than lows. Hallett Oktoberfast 2014 was no exception for me, and I attained a new "high". Hallett last year I had a low of being pushed off track at turn 1, just after the start, while battling for first place with Chad Cox and Jim Buckley. This was followed by a high of winning the next race. Then another low, when I was leading to the last lap of the last race, with a few seconds lead. All the work went in the trash when 1 went off in turn 1 again. This left me hooked to a chain link fence. By the time I got extricated and back on track I was dead last. For 2014 I spent much time working on my other race car, the BMW Chump Car (Helga). My arch nemeses in PCA (the buzzing 911's/Buckley bullets) on the other hand spent the winter in the skunk works developing more tricks to frustrate me. I converly had done nothing and had low expectations of glory. I set out with a goal to have fun, to do the best I could with what I have, and to drive the car back on the trailer safely. Hallett for those who don't know, is a little piece of heaven northwest of Tulsa. The PCA Cimarron Region put on a great event there and 2014 was no different. With almost 90 racers and 20 or so DE'ers the event was a buzz. The weather also cooperated with an almost perfect weekend. Hallett has named corners similar to other tracks. Laguna Seca as an example has the Corkscrew; Road America has the "Kink". Hallett has a hump and a couple of turns aptly named after a female dog or to be PG 13 we'll just call it the "Beach". Little did I know at the start of the weekend but this female was going to take a bite out of my rear end! And so on to the Oktoberfast 2014 saga. I start warm ups in high spirits.
