November / December 2014 36 AUTOCROSS UPDATE By Rudy Rodriguez Asphalt + Adrenaline + Acceleration = AUTOCROSS x 2 When autumn arrives, that marks the end of the auto- cross season. It's a sad note, but true. When I reflect on the past four autocrosses for 2014, the last one is the worst for me because I know that my Porsche will be parked for the next five months. If you missed the last one you will have to wait until next year in order to test your Porsche to its handling lim- its. In September and October, I held our last autocrosses for the year. The weather was excellent and now that Am- eristar Casino has moved our event to their biggest lot, the speeds and times are excit- ing. On average, about thir- teen participants navigated the course at full speed. The course was very challenging to everyone including sever- al new event members. Each participant circled the track twice before their time was recorded. The drivers were allowed to record five times, that's ten laps! All make and models were well represent- ed. That list included: 911s, Boxsters, Caymans, and a BMW. Hey who let that guy in? Just joking. Everybody was a good sport and the times were all competitive. I would like to thank the following people for their support this year in helping me organize the autocross- es; Richard Bennett, Agelon T. Jones, Spencer Cochran, and all of our PCA instruc- tors and any others that I may have forgotten. With- out these volunteers, Kansas City would not have an au- tocross program. I would like to challenge all club members to participate in just ONE autocross next year and I guarantee that if you did, you would not re- gret it. It would be the most fun you have had in a long time. See you in next year. Check the newsletter for the full 2015 Autocross sched- ule coming soon! - RUDY
