heila Robinson was a mother of two young children when she started taking design classes
25 years ago. She landed positions with various Sacramento-area firms before going solo.
"I knew nothing about business, but I knew I was a good designer and I knew what my clients wanted
because I was a good listener," she says.
Robinson quickly made a name for herself with a design business and store in Sacramento. Three years
ago, she moved to Carmel to open Ambiance, a home showroom on San Carlos, and a separate design
studio on Lincoln. She's been busy since day one, focusing on residential ventures that range from cottages
inspired by English traditions to modern contemporary homes.
While Robinson's design inspirations vary, her goals remain the same across projects.
"When people say to me, 'You've really made this home feel like us,' I take that as the biggest
compliment," she says.
