January / February 2015 36 to admire her shapely lines; especially those hips, and appreciate that she is really mine—a dream that I had given up many years ago. I have already added 7K miles to the odometer and I hope to own a second Porsche someday, but I will always keep my first Porsche as long as I can. One of my daughters is already asking if it will be hers someday—how cool is that? My story of a long rambling journey with no road map to arrive at Porsche ownership illustrates that one can arrive where one always wanted. The unexpected benefit of Porsche ownership and PCA membership is the blessing of making new friends in the PCA Kansas City Region. How many guys my age make new friends that they didn't meet though their wives or kids, and who share such a passion for a particular car? My Porsche experience has been so much better because of the new friends I can share my passion with. And to think that I worried if I would fit in; a guy my age, a public servant, and not a life-long owner. Thank you for the warm welcome I have received from so many of you. I can't imagine being a Porsche owner and not a member of PCA. My wife can't believe that I get up so early on Saturday morning to hang out with my friends for breakfast and car talk. Actually, she thinks I'm crazy and she's right—I'm so crazy for Porsche's that just last weekend several of our members went to the Kansas City Car Museum for a "Cars and Coffee" gathering. After I arrived, I had no real interest in looking at the other makes of cars on display which makes the slogan, "Porsche, there is no substitute" the absolute truth. By the way, I am still a cop, still married to the same woman, and my kids are in college because I didn't buy my first Porsche before I should have. I hadn't thought of owning a Porsche for years, but when the opportunity suddenly appeared out of nowhere I didn't hesitate. I am glad my dream was still alive even though I didn't realize it! - DENNIS In 1984 I was driving through Salina, KS and saw a Porsche 1972 911T Targa parked in an RV sales lot. There was a "FOR SALE" sign on it so I stopped in, test drove it, and bought it a couple days later. I'd been in Germany while in the army back in 1963 and remember the new model 911's when they first hit the autobahn's, and had already been smitten by the 356 cars. My lifelong dream of owning a PORSCHE car had been realized. However, it didn't take long to realize that there were major mechanical problems with the car, which I began attending to one at a time. I immediately joined the PCA and my wife, 2 sons, and I started attending functions in KC, and the Mother's Day events in Branson, and driving events that were offered. As the P lease say WELCOME BACK to Ron and his speed yellow 996 Turbo with 12,126 miles! His been gone for 15 years, and very happy to be back.
