ober t Carver was taking an ar t history course when he chose his college major, entering a field that con-
nected his interests in creative work and business.
"Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater was the very last slide of the very last class. It sor t of ignited something in me,"
he says. "That was the moment when I decided to be an architect."
Today, the principal of Studio Carver incorporates sustainable features into his residential and commercial proj-
ects in coastal Monterey County, San Francisco, Marin County and Texas. He designed the new restrooms that
opened on Carmel Beach this winter, and he also helped restore the Point Sur Lighthouse.
In his spare time, Carver races vintage go-kar ts (he was introduced to the spor t while spending summers as a
race mechanic), and he volunteers with Big Sur's Mid-Coast Fire Brigade. The camaraderie that characterizes his
leisure adventures carries through to his Carmel office environment.
"We work hard," he says. "We don't take ourselves too seriously, but we take our work very seriously."
