Jones & Terwilliger Galler y Paints a Rosy Future T o celebrate its 19th year in business, Jones & Terwilliger Art Gallery expanded its fine art showcase, becoming the largest gallery in Carmel. Two distinct sets of rooms take up almost half a block of 6th Avenue, connected by a charming stone patio. Jones & Terwilliger's invest- ment should give confidence to the Carmel art scene, painting swaths of bright color onto its recovering economic canvas. Owners Barbara Jones and Patricia Terwilliger feel there are many rea- sons why they've been able to expand even as California is coming out of a recession. "We have decades of experience in the art business and care- fully select the artists we represent," says Terwilliger. More than 55 award- winning artists are showcased; some globally known who now make their homes in Carmel (or California), such as Duffy Sheridan, David Smith and Marilyn Simandle. A wide range of styles are evident in the gallery's rooms. Some feature stark white walls providing an airy feel, hung with mostly contemporary artists such as Mark English—a Texas native who made his mark as one of America's top illustrators and now paints abstracts—and whimsical bronze dog sculptures by Californian Marty Goldstein. The gallery's west side rooms have a cozier, traditional atmosphere with soft gray walls, polished wood and a welcoming fireplace. From the plein air Central Coast scenes by Brian Blood to the romantic European street scenes by young California artist Lindsey Goodwin, there is something for almost every art lover. "Another key to our success is incredible customer ser vice," Terwilliger explains. "We have six ar t consultants here in Carmel. We all have a sincere interest in helping clients in their 'treasure hunt' for spe- cial ar twork." Gallery staff regularly transpor ts selections of ar twork to clients' homes anywhere in California so it can be viewed in that client's home setting. Jones & Terwilliger Gallery is located on 6th between San Carlos and Dolores.
