Day 23 Arrowtown – Wanaka – Franz Josef (B,D) On our way out of Queenstown we visit the quaint and historic gold mining town of Arrowtown. Take a step back in time and enjoy the traditional street scenes and shops. Make our way to Wanaka, known as one of the most beautiful lakeside towns in New Zealand. Travel over the Haast Pass to the spectacular Thunder Creek Falls and through sub-tropical rainforest to the spectacular Franz Josef Glacier – the world's most accessible glacier. Overnight Stay: Scenic Hotel Franz Josef Glacier Day 24 TranzAlpine Rail – Christchurch HM (B,HD) Explore Franz Josef Glacier or take the unique opportunity to fly over the glacier to appreciate its crystalline beauty or even walk on it. Today's journey is breathtaking as we embark on what is known as one of the best and most famous rail journeys in the world. Cross dramatic river gorges, river valleys, sub- tropical rainforest and lakes on one side of the Alps then dry forests and patchwork farmland on the other.
