The team's co-captain led a defensive backline that recorded six shutouts on the season, the most since 2004. He played all 1,664 minutes and tallied two goals this season in two of the Tigers' biggest matches, at Wisconsin and against UCF in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament. Shannon, a native of Broken Arrow, Okla., has been a mainstay on the Tiger backline. Despite missing half of the 2010 season, Shannon played in 59 games and started 56 of them as a Tiger. A natural leader, both vocally and through his actions, Shannon was one of the unquestioned leaders of the team. Shannon is majoring in biomedical engineering. 2011 MEMPHIS MEN'S SOCCER YEARBOOK 69
