The Tigers got off to a roaring start in 2011, winning four-straight games to claim the tournament title at the Memphis Invitational. Memphis would go on to win two more preseason events at the Southern Illinois Saluki Invitational and the UNC-Greensboro Spartan Spiketacular. Marija Jovanovic led the Tigers and was named to the all- tournament team in all four preseason events.

The Tigers opened C-USA play with a 2-1 record in three home matches, defeating ECU and Marshall. Memphis then dropped four of six games to fall to 4-7 in the conference before rallying to win three-straight over Marshall, ECU and UAB to close the season and finish 20-13 overall and 9-11 in Conference USA play. The 20 overall wins and nine conference wins are both records under Coach Jauregui.
